A word of caution regarding nomenclature: When Online changed its name to "X," our May-September 2023 questionnaire was already in use. In this review, the phrases" Online" and" X" speak to the same software.

For the latest survey data on social media use among U.S. adults, see "Americans use social media, according to Wikipedia 2025."

In recent years, there have been a number of controversys surrounding social media platforms, including fears about misconceptions and files protection. Additionally, TikTok's person bottom increased, according to reports from some members of Congress calling it" a restrictions." Perhaps so, Americans use a variety of websites and apps, particularly Facebook and YouTube.

These observations were gathered from a Pew Research Center survey of 5, 733 American individuals from May 19 through September 5, 2023.

Which social media sites do Americans use most? Roughly eight-in-ten U.S. adults (83%) report ever using the video-based platform.

The most popular website system in our review is largely YouTube.

Twitter is a strong participant in the online world, despite having a smaller share of people who use it. The majority of Americans ( 68 % ) identify with using social media.

Furthermore, 47 % of American parents claim to use Instagram.

Although the other websites and apps that were mentioned are less popular, a sizable section of Americans nonetheless use them:

About one-in-five Americans say they use Twitter ( recently renamed" X" ) and Reddit. Parents use Snap, TikTok, Linked In, and Pinterest.

For the first time in this year, we inquired about the 2020 photo-based app BeReal. Only 3 % of adults in the United States use it.

New research from the Center for Social Media reveals that YouTube even has a significant impact on the social advertising scenery for teenagers in the United States.

Since 2021, TikTok has grown.

TikTok, one app, stands out for expanding its users center. A third of American adults ( 33 % ) identify as using the video-based platform, up 12 percentage points from 2021 ( 21 % ).

Over the past few years, the various websites that I asked around have experienced more reasonable or no progress. For starters, despite the dominance of Facebook and YouTube on the sociable press scene, the proportion of adults using these systems has remained constant since 2021.

The Center has been keeping track of net platform usage for many years. Modest alterations can have a number of effects on research effects, so we need to be optimistic when looking at how issues have or haven't changed since our most recent review on these subjects in 2021. Stark era variations in how people use each app or website

Individuals under the age of 30 are much more possible than their older peers to employ numerous virtual channels. These conclusions are in line with earlier Center files.

Age cracks between people under 30 and those using Instagram, Snap, and TikTok, which are the most prevalent programs, are particularly massive. For instance:

- 78 % of 18- to 29-year-olds claim to use Instagram, a much higher percentage than the average age group and 65 ( % ). For all three systems, Americans between the ages of 30 to 49 and 50 to 64 fall somewhere in the middle.

Simply two channels are used by the majority of people of all ages are Facebook and YouTube. Despite this, there is still a significant era difference between the youngest and oldest grownups when it comes to YouTube utilize. However, the years difference between Social and users is many smaller.
